Robert PeakeIf what is true brings us sorrow, / if what sorrow brings is truth
About This Quote
The idea that if what is true brings us sorrow, then the only way to bring us joy is to ignore truth. This idea isn’t new. Socrates said that if you are free to tell the truth, then you will be able to tell it without fear of being harmed or killed. You may have heard that some people are “true to themselves” even if it means their lives are difficult. This is because they are not afraid of telling the truth even though it may bring sadness.
